In regards to the rest of your post, State law cannot contradict the Constitution:
US Constitution, Article VI, para. 2
States cannot deny rights:
US Constitution, Article IV, Section 2, para. 1
Also: 2nd AoA, 10th AoA, and 14th AoA.

“gun deaths” in terms of statistics lumps good guys shooting bad guys, bad guys shooting good guys, suicides, and accidents in the same heading.
percentage of bad guys shooting good guys is a better litmus test. why is that? pop of US is 300 mil. pop of UK is 60 mil.
about half of us gun deaths are suicides.
Switzerland has lowest crime rate highest gun per capita.
DC has highest crime rate in US and strictest gun laws.
